
Born and raised in Hawaii, Dr. Lisa Foster earned her undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree in education from the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She also holds a Master’s degree in Arts in Private School Administration from the University of San Francisco. Dr. Foster earned her doctorate degree in Education Leadership from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. She also enjoys teaching as an adjunct instructor at Chaminade University’s Department of Education since 1996.
Lisa has been active in humanitarian service since 1996 as an active member of the Rotary Club of East Honolulu. She currently serves as a District Officer. In 2007, she was recognized by her club as Employer of the Year and received the Four Avenue of Service Award. She also participated as a 2007 Fulbright Scholar to the United Kingdom, as an administrator exchange participant through the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Her hobbies and interests include literature, drama, martial arts, swimming, gardening and hula.
Dr. Lisa Foster has been principal of Star of the Sea ELC since 1988 and is an integral part of its programs and is constantly involved in overseeing and participating in daily activities at the Center.

The majority of teachers at our Center have training and credits over and beyond their baccalaureate degrees. The majority of upper division teachers have Montessori Certification. Teachers without outside education are required to have a minimum of 12 units of ECE credits and a minimum of two years of ECE experience. Every year, our teachers are offered opportunities to take courses in early childhood development to further their professional development.
All teachers and staff are certified by the DHS and are registered with the Childcare Registry.
Many of our teachers and staff have been part of the Star of the Sea Ohana for more than 10 to 15 years.

Dr. Sharon Kazama, Child Psychologist
Dr. Sharon Kazama has degrees in child and adult psychology. Her role at the Center is to observe children’s learning, behavior and development processes and address teacher and parental concerns. She has been a consultant to the Center for more than 16 years. Dr. Kazama also works with the Developmental Preschool Screening Agency of the State of Hawaii in developmental assessments of students (DIALS).
Ms. Malia, Music
